The “New Leaf” Process

Turning your Ideas into Reality

Getting Started

We’ll start with a phone call for a quick conversation about your project. Some of the things I’ll ask about during this conversation include whether you are planning to renovate an existing home or build new, where the project is located, and how soon you hope to start construction. You can get a head start on this by filling out the information on the Contact Us page of this website. Next we’ll schedule a longer Introduction Meeting or Consultation.
Step 1

Program

We may meet again so I can get more information about your hopes for your project, including your investment target. Or I may generate the written “Program” from our initial conversation. This is a good time to gather information about the size and shape of your lot, zoning requirements, and any other aspects of your site which could affect your project. If we are renovating your existing home, I’ll also take field measurements and create a CAD model of the house as it is during this time.
Step 2

Design

I generate a Design based on your Program. The Schematic Design phase is where the ideas written in the Program start turning into pictures of what your project could look like. We meet together to review this first design and decide what you would like changed or if there are other ideas we need to explore. I go back to the studio and make the modifications we’ve discussed, followed by the Design Development phase meeting. Depending on your particular project, there may be more than one meeting for each of these phases.
Step 3

Build

Building is where all our careful planning comes together to make your home a more enjoyable place to live! I’ll be available for questions from your contractor during construction. If you would like me to be more involved as your project is built, let me know and we can discuss the options. How long all this takes depends on a lot of things, from the size of your project to how quickly you want to make decisions. Even if it will be months or years before you are ready to build, I’d be happy to meet with you for a complimentary consultation. I can answer some of your questions, and bring your project a step closer to reality.
